Novera℠ Nanobubble Performance Program

A groundbreaking program that employs nanobubble technology to improve operational performance and advance sustainability goals across water and wastewater treatment applications.

Unlock More Performance From Your Water and Wastewater Treatment Programs

For years, water-intensive industrial operations have been able to optimize their chemical programs to improve solid-liquid separation while managing costs. Unfortunately, incremental chemistry tweaks are no longer enough to keep up with demands. As production demands increase and sustainability expectations rise, operators must process more water, reduce discharge and lower environmental impact, often without additional resources or infrastructure.

As a global leader in industrial and municipal water treatment, our field professionals work alongside your engineers and technicians every day, so we understand the challenges you face and strive to advance solutions that have a meaningful impact on your day-to-day operations.

With the introduction of the Novera Nanobubble Performance Program, Solenis now offers a breakthrough approach to water and wastewater treatment. The Novera program merges next-generation nanobubble-generating equipment, chemistry and service into a single, integrated solution to improve operational performance and advance sustainability goals across water and wastewater treatment applications.

Solenis’ coagulants and flocculants still form the foundation of the solid-liquid processes. The breakthrough comes from the introduction of nanobubbles in the makedown water. Nanobubbles are sub-micron gas bubbles with unique physical properties that unlock performance benefits no conventional chemical can replicate. They function to uncoil polymer chains, exposing more surface area of the molecule and increasing the efficiency of coagulation and flocculation.

Moleaer, the leader in reliable nanobubble deployment worldwide, manufactures the required equipment used exclusively in the Novera program. Solenis application specialists and field professionals support implementation and deployment, drawing on extensive real-world water and wastewater treatment experience. Our team will assess your specific process, design a pilot protocol and document results through our ValueAdvantage℠ program.

Customers who deploy the Novera program can expect to realize several significant benefits:

  • Demonstrated performance improvements of 10-35% in applicable treatment processes, with drier cake and cleaner filtrate
  • Improved solvation, making treatment more energy efficient
  • Reduced chemical, energy and hauling and disposal costs
  • Decreased CO2 emissions to contribute toward sustainability targets
  • Increased process stability
  • Enhanced biological and chemical reactions to improve effluent water quality

Applications

The Novera Nanobubble Performance Program is currently available for the following water and wastewater treatment applications:

Effective water and wastewater treatment begins with efficient clarification, the process of removing suspended solids from the water stream. Fine suspended particles in raw water and wastewater are destabilized and aggregated into larger flocs through coagulation and flocculation, allowing them to be efficiently removed by conventional settling clarifiers or dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems. With the Novera Nanobubble Performance Program, Solenis coagulants and flocculants are applied to enhance solids aggregation and separation. Through a patented process, the nanobubble technology enhances polymer activation, improving coagulant and flocculant performance and increasing solids removal through settling or flotation. In addition, nanobubbles can enhance particle interactions and separation processes, especially in wastewater streams containing elevated levels of fats, oils, and grease.

As solids settle out during sedimentation, significant water remains in the sludge. Removing this water from settled primary solids is a critical step in wastewater treatment, requiring chemical treatment and thickening equipment, including gravity, DAF, and rotary drum thickeners. Solenis’ Novera Nanobubble Performance Program includes nanobubble-enabled flocculants to help separate free water from the sludge matrix, increasing solid concentration before secondary processing. At the same time, boosted flocculants improve the hydraulic and loading capacity of thickening equipment. The result is more efficient sludge thickening, with more water removed at lower cost.

The dewatering process is the final step of wastewater solids treatment. The purpose of the dewatering process is to remove a substantial portion of the water from the stabilized solids. By decreasing the volume of waste product, sludge transportation and disposal costs are reduced.

Solenis’ Novera Nanobubble Performance Program, bringing together chemicals and nanobubble technology, improves sludge dewatering in three aspects:

  • During the conditioning stage, pretreatment of the thickened sludge right before it enters mechanical units like belt filter presses, centrifuges or screw presses increases surface hydrophobicity and reduces water affinity in sludge, weakening the hydration shell around flocs and converting bound water into free water.
  • This hydrophobic shift allows polymer conditioners to form porous, permeable filter cakes, which significantly improves dewatering efficiency and lowers moisture content.
  • Overall, the process yields a drier, stable solid “cake” that drastically reduces hauling and disposal costs.

Results can vary, but many customers using the Novera program report seeing cake dryness improvements of 1–4 percentage points without increasing chemical dosing levels.
