Rather than injecting the chemicals directly into the condenser water supply line, integral chemical injection tees were included in the flow assembly to simplify the installation, monitoring, and maintenance requirements associated with chemical additions.</p> <p><!-- /wp:paragraph --></p> <p><!-- wp:paragraph --></p> <p>Due to the high hardness and alkalinity levels being maintained in the recirculating tower water, the alkaline corrosion and scale inhibitor additions were causing calcium deposits to form in the control loop return piping. Over time, the flow rates were noticeably reduced. As the flow rate decreased, plugging problems accelerated with deposits forming on the flow switch. To ensure reliable water treatment program control, the flow assemblies had to be periodically chemically cleaned. Plans were being discussed to replace the plugged piping and move to a location that would provide a higher pressure drop.</p> <p><!-- /wp:paragraph --></p> <p><!-- wp:heading {"level":5} --></p> <h5>Recommended Solution</h5> <p><!-- /wp:heading --></p> <p><!-- wp:paragraph --></p> <p>The inhibitor product was converted to CHEM-AQUA 39775, a new high performance, low pH cooling tower corrosion and scale inhibitor. Unlike traditional cooling tower inhibitors which require high levels of caustic for formulation stability, CHEM-AQUA 39775 is an acidic product that eliminates the localized high pH concerns that can cause control loop deposits.
