Operating Principles & Certifications

Solenis has established a range of world-class management systems and operations to deliver products that consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.

Ensuring operational excellence to create sustainable improvement within our organization.

Our global supply chain and operation team’s mission is to ensure that the right product is produced and delivered to the right customer at the right time.

With more than 14,000 active products, 115 warehouses around the globe and more than 2.3 billion kg of speciality chemicals sold, of which 1.3 billion kg of specialty chemicals produced annually, our supply chain team is a matrixed organization designed to ensure the best customer outcome and customer satisfaction. Such a broad solution’s offering brings high complexity. Because coordination and well-orchestrated team execution are so critical, we structure our business operations around global regions so that customers in those regions receive the best possible experience when interacting with Solenis representatives. Our regional teams consist of our manufacturing plants, customer service, logistics, planning and trade compliance, all of which operate with the flexibility and autonomy required to make rapid decisions. To ensure global consistency and discipline, our engineering, master data, process technology and product support functions are managed globally.

Operations in Action

Solenis has achieved platinum status for corporate social responsibility for three consecutive years from EcoVadis, the global leader in sustainability ratings. This followed two years at gold status, confirming how we have championed sustainable supply chain practices globally since our inception. See below for real-world examples of how we do business.

We are committed to promoting excellence in environmental, health, safety and security, and to having a positive impact on the communities in which we operate and on society as a whole. Our commitment is so strong that we have made it a company policy. We carry this out by supporting the principles and ethics of Responsible Care*, a global initiative to advance the safe and secure management of chemical products and operations. Our Responsible Care program includes:

  • A global management system to deliver excellence in environmental, health, safety and security performance, and to meet required local, regional, international and business- specific standards.
  • Worker involvement at every level of the organization.
  • Continual improvement toward our goals of operating with zero harm (incidents), achieving 100 percent compliance and reducing our environmental, health, safety and security impact.

* Responsible Care is a registered trademark of the American Chemistry Council.

Measuring our Commitment
A commitment to be one of very few companies in the world to have all of our manufacturing plants comply with external third-party certification, following the Responsible Care 14001 standard. We are similarly committed to have all of our manufacturing facilities be ISO 45001 certified. View the certifications.

How We Carry It Out
Our commitment is far-reaching and well-rounded. Whether we're cleaning up the environment, protecting our workers from safety hazards, monitoring our compliance or evaluating our performance, we're on top of things. Our Responsible Care program encompasses:

  • Environmental and regulatory programs, providing expertise in critical areas of environmental, health, safety and security.
  • Product risk management, a companywide system.
  • Product regulatory information, managing safety data sheets and making health, safety and environmental protection an integral part of the life cycle of chemical products.
  • Remediation, handling worldwide environmental investigation, cleanup and risk management.
  • Safety management, providing global safety support.
  • Audits, ensuring we are doing what we say.

Solenis is committed to excellence in quality and maintains world-class quality systems and operations to deliver products that consistently meet or exceed customer expectations. Our business processes and manufacturing sites operate according to the principles of ISO 9001, which utilize a quality risk management standard. We achieve regulatory, market, and certification compliance through appropriate applicable good manufacturing practices that are fully aligned with business requirements.

Quality Policy
At Solenis, we seek to achieve mutually profitable relationships with our customers and are dedicated to:

  • providing quality products and services
  • improving process and system capabilities
  • measuring our performance through set goals and objectives
  • utilizing high-performance teams to drive improvement
  • delivering value to our customers and stakeholders

Quality Goals
Customer satisfaction is a top priority at Solenis. In addition to providing high-quality products to our customers, our aim is to always deliver:

  • the expected product
  • in the quantity ordered by the customer
  • at the place agreed by the customer
  • at the time expected by the customer

We understand that we must achieve these goals to maintain our relationships with our customers.

Quality Management System
The business processes documented in our quality management system are all focused on enhancing customer satisfaction. We are committed to continually improving these processes and our performance across our global businesses so that we can achieve our quality goals. We measure and regularly report on our performance to our stakeholders.

After two years of achieving a Gold Level evaluation status, in 2023 Solenis earned its third consecutive Platinum Recognition Level for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance from EcoVadis, a collaborative platform providing sustainability ratings and performance improvement tools for global supply chains. This places Solenis in the top 1% of performers evaluated by EcoVadis in the chemical industry category.

Participating in the EcoVadis assessment helps us demonstrate our commitment to sustainability initiatives, especially considering the rigor of the methodology, which is built on international CSR standards, including the Global Reporting Initiative, the United Nations Global Compact and the ISO 26000, covering 200+ purchasing categories, 160+ countries and 20+ CSR issues. Organizations around the world, in multiple industries, respect the EcoVadis assessment as the universally recognized standard for CSR excellence.

As a member of Sedex since 2017, Solenis utilizes the Sedex secure and confidential online database to share information with our customers. This allows us to demonstrate our own sustainability performance while simultaneously enabling our customers to meet their own sustainability targets.

Every Solenis production site supplying a product to a particular customer must complete a self-assessment questionnaire. This questionnaire was recently updated by Sedex and aligns with the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) pillars: Labor, Health and Safety, Business Ethics and Environment.

In 2020, Solenis manufacturing sites that are current Sedex members (currently 68%) complied with the new questionnaire to include how our sites operate and what systems are in place to manage social and environmental challenges. Solenis intends to register the remaining manufacturing facilities as Sedex members in the near future. As a result, our customers will have full transparency to all Solenis manufacturing plant data in support of the four SMETA pillars. View the certifications.
